Route 66, Race 1
Due to "Mother Nature" and her rainy days, there wasn't
much testing to be done prior to opening weekend of the 2013 MWTS/Quartermax Racing Series. She did co-operate with us for opening day and we had 18 cars to start it off. 2 entries were unable to make 1st round eliminations, so we had a 16 car field set.
Ricky Sojka was the low qualifier with a 6.76 @ 206 mph.
The semi-finals saw Mike Olenick vs. Steve Howard and Dave Howard vs. Robbie Vanderwoude. Robbie and Mike took the wins and faced off in the finals, with
Mike Olenick taking the win. Congrats to Mike and his crew! And also congrats to Robbie and his dad on a great day!
Mike Olenick also had the first perfect light in eliminations and took a bonus home of $50.00, sponsored by Boss Logistics.
Route 66 did a great job with preparing the track and we thank them for all their hard work!
Next weekend, May 11th, is the 2nd race of the series, again back at Route 66. Hope to see everyone there!

Route 66, Race 2
It was a cold and windy day at the race track for mid May. With temperatures in the 50’s and wind gusts of over 40 mph a decision was made to go 1/8 mile
racing. We were also informed that we were only getting one shot to qualify and then straight into eliminations. To start the day we had 21 cars qualify with
one entry broke after the fist qualifier and unable to make the call for round one.
Low qualifier went to Rick Sojka Jr. for the 2nd race in a row. Rick qualified with a 4.32 @ 164 mph.
In the semi-finals it was Tim Kirman with the bye run and Rick Sojka Jr. vs. Dave Esposito. Rick took the win when Dave’s car got loose forcing him to lift. This set up our final for the day where Rick Sojka Jr. took on Tim Kirman. It was a close race from start to finish with Rick taking the win. Congratulations Rick Sojka Jr. and crew on a great win. Also congrats goes out to Tim Kirman and crew on their runner up finish after taking a year off. Once again Route 66 Raceway did a fantastic job on the race track to make it safe for everyone on a cold and windy day.

MWTS @ ADRL Cordova (not a MWTS sponsored race)
We had several MWTS members compete this past weekend at Cordova Dragway for ADRL’s Spring Drags 4. Of the 22 cars qualifying on Saturday, 8 of them are current MWTS members. Our top qualifying member (#5 spot) was Ricky Sojka, Jr who ran 4.35 @ 163, and was closely followed by (#6) Dave Howard’s 4.36 @ 162.
On Sunday a 16 car field was paired up, which included all 8 MWTS cars (congrats guys!)...and talk about some CLOSE races!! Wow! Mother nature wasn’t very cooperative early today so there was a slight rain delay during 1st round. Round one unfortunately had Ricky Sojka and Erik Carlson seeing red, and Bill Rotz losing by only 0.0011 seconds (approx. 3 inches!!!). Then despite Stevie Howard’s better reaction time (.022 vs Musi’s .041), at the end Howard was behind .0565 seconds. Olenick was out this round also. Dave Howard, Steve Jaeger, and Ed Kurth went on to round 2.
In the second round Steve Jaeger took out the #1 qualifier, joining Ed and Dave who also got the win lights to advance to the semis.
In the semi-finals Jaeger was paired up against Kurth. Kurth got a great light (.004) and didn’t look back. It was still a VERY close race as Kurth took the stripe by only .0030 seconds (appx. 8 inches!!). Dave saw red this round by -.003.
The final was Kurth and Fredrich, and what a final it was!!!! Kurth ran right on his dial, but due to reaction time Kurth got the runner-up.
It was a good showing of MWTS members and good time out in the pits with everyone!

US131, Race 3
US131 offered the MWTS a great racing surface on Saturday to continue the quest for the 2013 Championship. There were 19 cars to start the day. We welcome to our growing family, Jim & Kim David from Michigan. We are looking forward to many more races with them. Also running with us was past member Richard Motycka and another Mi. racer Mike Kintz.
We had 9 cars who qualified with times in the 6 seconds!! The #1 qualifier was Tim Kirman, with a 6.69 @ 207 mph! Along with Tim in the 6's were,
Jim David, Steve Howard, Mike Kintz, Dave Howard, Dave Green, Mike Olenick, and Ricky Sojka.
Everyone had impressive ET's and performance and were professional at doing so. And, if I may say as one of the "older" racers, ladies and gentleman, LOOK OUT, here come the "young guns"!! Robbie, Kyle, and Steve H.- WOW!! IMPRESSIVE performance! Keep up the hard work.
Ok, after the "re-laddering" 3 times we got started, and "Thank-You" racers for being on your game to change up opponents in the staging lanes at the last minute. I think it just shows how great you guys are! We all got matched up and were ready to go, and we didn't hold up the track. Great Job!! Unfortunately, 4 cars were unable to make the 1st round call. We hope that they are able to get everything fixed and are back on track real soon.
When it came down to the semi-finals it was Robbie Vander Woude vs. Tony Grzelinski and Dave Howard vs. Bill Rotz. Robbie and Bill took the wins, and in the final Robbie broke at the line and Bill Rotz took the win. Bill and Robbie both ran great all day. Congrats to Bill and his crew on a great day! Also, congrats to
Robbie and his Dad on a "not how I wanted to finsh", but pretty good day also.
Also, never before have we had 2 perfect lights in the same round of eliminations, but we did today! Robbie Vander Woude was the first one so he got the "Perfect Light" bonus money, and then Dave Espisito also had a perfect light in the same round! Boy, these guys in MWTS are tough!!
There was no "Bounty Hunter" bonus money paid, as our last winner was unable to make the call to 1st round. So, bounty will be on Bill Rotz our next race at Cordova Dragway, July 27th.
Several times during the day the track manager said how impressed they were with us. That we put on a show for them! That means alot to us, and we thank them for having a great facility offered to us to come to. "Thank-You" US131!! I think all our cars are great looking and our racers and crews professional. Hats off to all of you!

Cordova Dragway, Race 4
MWTS is happy to have new member Larry Dalton join us and he proved himself with a runner-up finish!
There were a total of 20 MWTS cars on the property for the day. We had 19 cars qualify into the field with a total of 17 cars in round 1 of eliminations. Chris Redden took out Bill Rotz in the first round giving him the “Bounty Hunter” bonus money.
In the semi-final round it was Larry Dalton with the bye run into the finals and Dave Howard victorious over Alex Bosak. Alex had an unfortunate water leak and
was shut down prior to making the run. In the final round it was Dave Howard over Larry Dalton. This was one close race with both drivers on their game. The reaction times were great and both cars were dialed right on. Congratulations to Dave Howard and Jim & Lisa Tacchia on their well deserved win. Also Congrats to our newest member Larry Dalton on doing such a great job his first time racing with MWTS this year.
MWTS would like to thank Cordova for giving everyone a safe and fast racetrack. The group enjoys going there every year and we hope to come back next year.

Byron Dragway, Race 5
We had a good turnout of cars at Byron Dragway this weekend for the first double-header of 2013 (races #5 and #6) in the MWTS/ QTR-MAX Racing Series. We
would like to thank Byron on having a great track for us this weekend. BJ and his crew were up late Friday getting everything ready and kept up on it all
weekend. From all the racers, Thank You!
Saturday we had 22 cars qualify with the low ET going to Brandon Baxter. Brandon piloted the Mopar down the track to run a 6.72 @ 207.
The perfect light went to Tom Vanacora. Nice job!
The Bounty Hunter went to Tim Kirman in today’s semi-finals as he took out the last race winner Dave Howard. This took Tim to the final round to face Robbie Vander Woude. In the final Tim saw red, giving Robbie the win. Congrats to Robbie on his first win of 2013. After winning the race, Robbie and crew packed up and went all the way back home to Homer Glen, IL to change out the transmission and converter. They got it done and made it back in time for Sundays race. Hats off to Robbie and crew!

Byron Dragway, Race 6
Sunday we had 17 cars qualify. Mike Olenick saw one of his best 60’ times in Q1, but then had transmission problems down track which ended his day
early so 16 cars were in round 1 of eliminations. Today’s low ET again went to Brandon Baxter who raised the bar by running a 6.67!
Also a great job by Kyle Dumke today as he was driving his dad’s (Larry Dumke) car and made it to the semi- finals where he then lost to Dave Howard. Along the way Kyle got the Bounty Hunter award by beating Robbie Vander Woude in round 1.
Rounds 1 and 2 saw an unusual amount of red for our group, time to get out the practice trees guys!!! Steve Jaeger was on his game though, getting the
perfect light award in round 1 and making it all the way to finals.
Just as the 4 semi-final cars were rolling back to the pits, the dreaded rain we had been watching finally hit. The final round was lined up to be Steve Jaeger
and Dave Howard. The purse was split between the two as the rain did not let up. Awesome job to all drivers today, we made a great showing for the Summer
Thunder event!

Route 66, Race 7
What a beautiful day for racing at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Il. Racers were raring to go, as we had 16 cars in the pits already Friday afternoon. Several
made the short ride down the street to Mr. B's Bar & Grill for some great food and racing stories that night.
Saturday morning we had 27 cars to start the program, what a great turnout!! With a few of the every race regulars out with mechanical issues and not able to attend, we were just short a full 32 car field. We welcomed back Tom & Bambi Donovan to MWTS, and their great looking Nova! Also, glad to have Mike & Teri Radtke back in the pits! Also, back to MWTS was Fred Sommer. We are glad to see you all back with us.
Low after 2 rounds of qualifing was Dave Howard with a 6.69 @ 206mph, but was unable to make first round of eliminations due to mechanical failure.
Semi-final racers were, Steve Jaeger, Richard Englebert, Dave Esposito and Alex Bosak. Dave and Alex went to the final round with Dave Esposito taking the
win! Congratulations to Dave and his whole crew, Great Job! Also, congrats to Alex Bosak and his crew. Alex has been really on the move as of late

Route 66, Race 8
Sunday morning we started the day with 21 cars entered for Race #8 of our Quarter/Max Racing Series. It was another beautiful day weather wise, and
we had alot of great races! After alot of really close and exciting rounds of racing it came down to Fred Sommer vs. Steve Jaeger, and Alex Bosak with the bye
run in the semi-final round. Steve and Alex faced off in the finals with dial-ins of 7.46 and a 7.45, pretty much a heads up race!! Steve Jaeger took the
win. Congrats to Steve and his family on a great day! Also, to Alex and his family on another runner-up finish!!!
Mike Kokenes had a perfect light in eliminations and won the bonus money for that! Good Job!
The Bounty Hunter was won by Alex Bosak, taking out Dave Esposito, our previous winner. Congrats to Alex.
We now have a 3-way tie for 2nd place in the Purse Snatcher points between Alex Bosak, Steve Jaeger, and Robbie Vander Woude!!

Byron Dragway, Race 9
There was a large turnout Friday night at Byron Dragway to get in and ready for Race #9 of the MWTS/Quartermax Racing Series. It was great to see everyone and exchange stories, but wasn't a very late night out as the temperature was dipping to the 40's!!! YIKES!! Burrrrr
We had 25 cars start off a chilly Saturday morning. We were glad to welcome Trent Larson from Minnesota. Also, the return of Davy Dins and family made us all feel great, it had been too long.
With several breakdowns on the track in other classes, we were in for a long, long, day! Quarter-finals saw Robbie Vander Woude vs Dave Howard, Steve Jaeger vs Larry Dalton, and Steve Howard vs. Tony Grzelinski. Dave, and both Steve's got the win lights. The Steve's would face off and Dave had the bye run in the semi-finals, but again there was another oil down and even though they were in the staging lanes and ready, the races were called off and the track had to shut down. So, we had no winner. That race not being finished could have a big effect on the points chase, as it is a tight battle at the top! There was no
Perfect Light in eliminations and there was not a Bounty Hunter as the previous winner was still in competition. Ricky Sojka was low qualifier for the day. Good job Rick.

Byron Dragway, Race 10
It was a cold overnight and I don't believe too many were out very late. I only noticed 1 firepit going and not many around it!! I imagine it was better by the
furnace!! In the morning we were ready to get started, in which turned out to be beautiful weather, with 19 cars. We lost 6 cars Saturday to various mechanical
failures. Hate when that happens, we want all our guys to be able to race!!
Curt Fredrich was low qualifier today, and earned a bye run in the first round. Quarter-finals was Steve Howard vs. Trent Larson, Steve Jaeger vs. Brian Brown, and Dave Esposito had the bye run. Semi's was Steve Howard vs. Dave Esposito and Jaeger had the bye. Steve Howard took the win in a great final vs. Steve Jaeger. Congrats to both Steve's and their teams.
Because there was no winner Saturday, there was no Bounty Hunter. Dave Esposito had a Perfect Light in eliminations and won the bonus money for that. Good Job Dave! The points race is tight with only 1 race left. Who will be the 2013 MWTS/Quartermax Series Champion??

Byron Dragway, Race 11
It was a tight race down to the last couple races this season for the MWTS/Quartermax Series Purse Snatchers Points Championship, but the season has
come to an end. Seems like we just got going!! The first round eliminations of race #11 placed the top 5 in points. We have crowned a new Champion,
congratulations to Steve Jaeger and family on a great 2013 season! Second place went to Dave Howard, Third place to Alex Bosak, Fourth place to Robbie
Vander Woude and Fifth place to Dave Espisito. Congrats to all of them and their teams and families.
We had 24 cars in the pits at Byron Dragway Friday night for our final race. It was rainy and cold, but this group of MWTS isn't hindered from having a great time by a little inclement weather!!! The firepits came out and we still had a good time!
Do you wonder what Saturday was like??? You guessed it! IT RAINED!!! At a cetain point the track officials did get the track dried and ready and a few cars from other classes got to go.....THEN IT RAINED AGAIN!!! We have to applaud the track guys, they never stopped trying to get it dried up. We certainly appreiciate the valiant effort they put out. Thank-you Byron for trying so hard, I guess Mother Nature wasn't in the mood for racing! So, again the firepits were out and alot of
stories, fun, food, and drink was the accomplishment of our efforts for waiting all day. The looming question was if the forecast was right and it would not rain Sunday???
It was mighty cool when we got up Sunday morning, but NO RAIN!!! It turned out to be a beautiful day for racing. The track gave us a 1 shot qualifier at 10 am. and we promised we would turn around in 35 minutes after each session there on. I believe we kept that promise and we did get the race completed. Thank-You to all our guys and gals and good job! We had a few new cars this weekend and we welcome all of them and hope they had a great time and will return for races next season.
We started Sunday with 25 entries. Brandon Baxter was low with a 6.67 @ 208 mph. Great job Brandon and dad, Don. All really good close races the first 2 rounds and in the quarter finals, it was Al Griffey vs. Andre Harris; Matiecka had a bye run; Larry Dumke vs. Bill Rotz; and Erik Carlson vs. Steve Jaeger. The semis went this way, it was Griffey vs. Matiecka; and Dumke vs. Carlson. These were great races, and the winners to the final round were, Larry Dumke and Al Griffey. Griffey took the win. Congratulations to Al Griffey and his team!
Also, congrats to Larry Dumke and his team! Larry also won the Perfect Light Bonus Money, as he had a perfect light in elims. I think every team stayed to the
end- it's always hard to leave the pits, especially the last race of the season. We all have such a great time together and love the challenges of racing these
awesome Top Sportsman cars. We have had a great season of 2013. We have new members and new sponsors. We are seeing our youngsters grow up and take over the drivers seat and do great jobs. We are all proud. Young & old, crews, families, friends, WE ARE - MIDWEST TOP SPORTSMAN.
We also want to thank our series sponsor for their continued support, for without Rick & Bonnie, and Rickie Jones and the people at Quartermax, it would be hard to continue making this Association what it is today. THANK-YOU, very much!!
Well, it's hard to say good-bye for a few months, but it won't be long and we will all be saying, where did the winter go?? I have to hustle to get my car done!!! So, till then, Happy Racing!!

congratulations to Steve Jaeger and family on a great 2013 season!
